Does the length of PCI-E extension cables affect performance?
This question was asked by Expreview editors, who decided to test two cables and compare their performance.
PCI Extension cables were very popular thing to buy when BitCoin mining was still popular. At the time it didn’t matter how long the cable was, because GPUs were not used for gaming.
However what if you wanted to install your GPU elsewhere than PCI-E slot on your motherboard? I think this question was asked by many modders who design their own PC cases, where such extenders are a must.
To put this very short, Expreview test confirmed that the use of such cables has minimal input on synthetic performance. No matter if the cable is long or not. They did not mention any problems with lag or rendering latency, so the use of extension cable has little to no affect on performance.
