NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 for notebooks is almost as fast as its desktop variant
Guys over at ComputerBase decided to take just released ‘GTX 980 for notebooks’ for a spin, and compare it against its desktop alternatives.
They used a new notebook from Shenker — XMG U726 Ultimate.
Obviously due to power constraints the GPU will not operate at the same frequencies as it’s desktop alternative. Although GPU Boost is adverised at 1228 MHz, in reality it will drop to even 1013 MHz. I’m guessing that’s not that bad, considering how power limited it is, but the GPU boost it definitely set too high.
ComputerBase has only tested 1920-1080 resolution, because.. well that’s the resolution of the screen. The difference between GTX 980 for notebooks and desktop GTX 980 is very small (desktop model is few percent faster).
